John “Jack” Sauers, 85 of Uniontown, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023 in the West Virginia University Hospital-Uniontown. He was born in Uniontown on Tuesday, October 11, 1938, son of the late John “Bud” Sauers and Naomi (Scannell) Sauers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Lisa, two sisters, Janie Sauers and Anne Taylor. Jack is survived by his loving wife of over 54 years of marriage, Martha (Gould) Sauers, two daughters, Melissa (Joseph) Rais and Jamie Childers, two grandchildren, Karly and Nicholas, several nieces and nephews, his two black cats and his dachshund, Elvis. Jack graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School of Uniontown, and was a graduate of Washington & Jefferson College of Washington, Pa. with a Degree in Economics. He was a faithful member of Saint Therese Roman Catholic Church of Uniontown and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Jack was a United States Army Veteran and served as an Army Medic. He was a former member of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Dept., and he also served the city of Uniontown as a member of the city council. He worked by his father’s side (Bud Sauers) at their family business, Sauers Men’s Store in Uniontown prior to the store’s closure in 1975. Jack retired with over 31 years of service as a Supervisor for the Department of Public Welfare. He loved to read the newspaper, go to the mall with his good friend Bernie, and was a lifelong Steelers fan. Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Therese Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. for a catholic Mass to celebrate Jack’s Faith and Life with Fr.
