Gisela McAlpine (née Ratzinger) passed away December 12, 2022 at home, with her daughter by her side. She was born June 12,1959 in Regensburg, Germany, where she earned a certificate in textiles and began her career at an upscale clothing boutique in her beloved Regensburg. In 1985, she relocated to Southern California. Gisela was a beloved daughter, devoted mother, and good friend. She spent years caring for those with disabilities in an assisted living facility before she moved on to working in a construction office, after having remodeled and redesigned her own home. Gisela moved to West Virginia to be closer to her daughter in 2019, and spent her final years making memories in the mountain state. Gisela loved animals, (especially cats!) and spending time at the beach. She loved the ocean. She was a terrific cook, and made many delicious traditional German dishes, always from scratch! She laughed easily and loved to travel. Gisela is preceded in death by her mother, Erika Eperiesy, of Germany; she is survived by her stepfather Waldemar Pirner of Germany, daughter Christina Thompson, (née McAlpine), son-in-law David Thompson, of West Virginia, and son Ralf Schinharl of California. She will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing, loving, and simply meeting her. The family will host a private gathering to commemorate and celebrate her life.
